WAIKIKI TROLLEYS |
Walking down the streets of Honolulu, you hear a familiar "ding, ding!" and you turn to look. A cable car? No. It's the Waikiki Trolley.
Waikiki Trolleys are classic street reproductions of the San Francisco cable cars. This unique source of transportation takes passengers to a number of Oahu's most popular visitor attractions, including the Waikiki Aquarium, King Kamehameha Statue, Iolani Palace, Bishop Museum and more. The authentic brass-trimmed open-air trolleys offer cool and breezy rides - not a bad idea considering Hawaii's often balmy temperatures.
The Waikiki Trolley began operations with just two trolleys in 1986. Today, there is a fleet of more than 50 trolleys. There are different routes that can take you shopping or sightseeing. The different lines are colored to cater to your desired destinations. Take the Honolulu City Line (Red) to explore the cultural and historic background of Hawaii. Stops include the Honolulu Academy of Arts, Hawaii Maritime Center and Foster Botanical Gardens. Take the Ocean Coast Line (Blue) to feel the cool Pacific Ocean breeze as you pass Diamond Head and Halona lookouts.
Feeling hungry or in the mood for some shopping? Jump on the Ala Moana Shopping Shuttle Line (Pink) and it'll take you to Hawaii's largest shopping center.
Trolley day passes are $25 for a one-day pass, with unlimited on and off boarding. Four-day passes are also available.
Waikiki Trolleys have transported over 150,000 passengers to their desired destinations since the day it started. Visitors and even the locals see the Waikiki Trolley as a means of convenient and educational transportation.
